13 Apps To Automate Your Home

Introduction

I’ve been a big fan of home automation for the last few years. It started with a smart thermostat and has grown into full-fledged smart home systems, namely in my kitchen. Here’s the thing: when it’s cold outside, I want to be able to control my lights and heat without getting up from bed or going downstairs every time. That’s where these apps come in handy!

1. Smart Thermostat

A smart thermostat is essentially a programmable thermostat with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth capabilities. It can be controlled remotely by you, or it can be programmed to adjust itself based on your behavior and the weather outside.

There are many benefits to having a smart thermostat installed in your home:

  • You save money! Smart thermostats use less energy than traditional models because they’re more efficient at regulating temperature settings in your home. According to Consumer Reports, “Most people will see their utility bills drop by 20{b49b303a7b364ea97526b80c05df49c778ed6cb5d57b8fb402e2f2bd6d1200d4} to 30{b49b303a7b364ea97526b80c05df49c778ed6cb5d57b8fb402e2f2bd6d1200d4} when they switch from an old-fashioned manual model.”
  • You can monitor its performance from anywhere! With apps like Nest’s myNest Mobile app (for iOS and Android), you’ll always know exactly what your house is doing–or rather, not doing–while you’re away from home. This feature makes it easy for homeowners who care about energy efficiency but don’t have time constantly check up on things while they’re working late nights at work or spending time outdoors enjoying nature instead of worrying about whether or not everything inside their houses has been turned off properly before heading out into nature where there might be bears roaming around hungry looking for food…

2. Smart Light Bulbs

If you want to automate your home, but don’t have the money or time to install new hardware, smart light bulbs are a great place to start. The most popular brands include Philips Hue and Lifx (which is currently on sale at Amazon). These bulbs connect directly to Wi-Fi so that they can be controlled from anywhere using an app on your phone.

You can turn them on and off remotely, dim them up or down in brightness as needed, change their color temperature from warm white light to cool blue tones–and even set up schedules for when they should automatically turn on or off throughout the day! Plus these bulbs use less electricity than traditional incandescent lights which means lower energy bills for you in the long run too!

3. Smart Power Strips

Smart power strips are a great way to automate your home. They can turn off appliances and electronics when they’re not in use, which saves you money on energy bills. They can also be controlled remotely, so you never have to worry about leaving something on accidentally when you go out of town or forget to unplug before bedtime. Smart power strips monitor energy usage, too–if an appliance starts acting up or isn’t working properly, the smart strip will detect this and alert you via text message or email!

4. Smart Water Meter

If you’re looking to save some money on your water bill and reduce your carbon footprint, a smart water meter is the way to go. A smart water meter will monitor the amount of water that goes through it and alert you if you are using too much. This can be helpful for catching leaks early on before they become big problems, as well as letting people know when there may be an issue with their plumbing system so they know what needs fixing before it becomes an emergency situation.

Smart meters also allow users to set up alerts so that when they reach a certain usage level (for example: 25 gallons per day), an automated notification will let them know that they need to cut back on their usage immediately! This helps keep them from wasting excess amounts every month without having too much influence over how much time spent showering/brushing teeth/etcetera each day.”

5. Smart Lock

You can use this app to lock your door from anywhere, and it’ll even unlock when you get home. If you’re going on a vacation, it will automatically lock the door while you’re away. You can also set up rules for specific times of day or days of the week, so if it’s raining outside and you don’t want to go out in the rain–or if it’s Christmas Eve and no one should be visiting–you can set up specific rules that will trigger when those circumstances occur.

6. Security Camera System

Security cameras are a great way to keep an eye on your home while you’re away, and they can also be used for home security. If someone breaks in or steals something, security cameras will capture the incident and help police catch the criminal.

Security cameras can be set up inside or outside of your house; some even come with motion detection technology so that they only record when something is happening in front of them!

7. Home Automation Hub

Home automation hubs are the brain of your smart home. They connect all of your smart devices together and allow you to control them with a single app or voice command. When choosing a hub, look for one that supports as many protocols and standards as possible so that it can work with all of the products in this list.

8. Lights Out Timer Switch

Lights Out Timer Switch is a simple device that allows you to turn off the lights in your house automatically at a pre-set time. This can be used to save electricity and lower your electric bill.

9. Vacuum Cleaner Robot

Robotic vacuum cleaners are a great way to clean your home, especially if you don’t have much time to do it yourself. These robots can run while you’re away, so they’re perfect for people who don’t want to worry about keeping up with the mess around their house. They also come with advanced features such as automatic charging and remote control apps that allow you to start or stop the cleaning process from anywhere in your home.

Robots are especially useful for pet owners because they can handle pet hair better than regular vacuums do–the only downside is that some models are too loud for those sensitive ears! Some robot cleaners even come equipped with HEPA filters (which means they filter out 99{b49b303a7b364ea97526b80c05df49c778ed6cb5d57b8fb402e2f2bd6d1200d4} of dust particles) so those allergic reactions should be kept at bay too!
